Draft Legal Rules Update

All –

I hope you and your loved ones are safe and sound during these times. If you’re feeling anything like me, then you’re having a rollercoaster of emotions on a daily basis. I’ve been through some interesting things (like blue-green algae, hot and humid races, straight-line winds, unexpected dust devils, freezing cold races, trains, and more), …but so far, COVID-19, you take the cake!

I want to share with you that the position at USA Triathlon that I have held for over ten years has been eliminated, unfortunately.

I’m certain the full impact of this change to me personally will become more apparent in the coming months. It’s been a few years since I’ve had my summer free to do what I want. The past 10+ years my spring, summer and fall have been spent traveling and coordinating and problem-solving and working with coaches, athletes, parents, and race directors here in the US and abroad. I have literally thousands of memories I won’t soon forget.

While I won’t be part of USA Triathlon community in an official capacity, I will continue to be the race director for the Youth and Junior Flatlands event in Des Moines, and the Women’s Collegiate Triathlon Championships and the Age Group Draft Legal Triathlon Championships at the Sun Devil Classic this Fall. Trust me, by the time we all get out of this lock down, I will be so very, very excited to see you putting all of your hard work to the test on the race course and crossing that finish line with a big fat smile plastered on your face.

Before I sign off, there are a couple of people I’d like to give a shout out to:

USAT National Events Team – Brain D’Amico, and the rest of his team, are the hardest working bunch of carnies I know. Thank you for all of your work and willingness to do the heavy lifting necessary to produce exceptional events.

Tim Yount – I am always in awe of your boundless energy and total dedication to the members of USAT. That Tim Yount laugh makes me smile just thinking about it. Thanks for being you!

Amanda Duke Boulet – You are one tough cookie I have always enjoyed problem-solving with. You rock, Duke!

You, the members of USA Triathlon  Really, I consider myself lucky to have worked with and supported each and everyone of you (yes, even those of you who have challenged me in one way or another) in Sarasota and Dallas and Greenville and Tuscaloosa and Richmond and Monroe and Tempe and Silverfish and Las Vegas and Pleasant Prairie and all of the places I’ve travelled to watch you race.

And last, but not least…

Steve Kelley (the man, the myth, the legend) – Probably my greatest pleasure has been to work with Steve to help build the finest youth and junior program in the world. Thank you so very much for letting me be part of the team to create a platform for so many special young athletes to thrive.

Know this… I won’t soon forget the connections I’ve made with the coaches, athletes, parents, officials, race directors, coworkers, and volunteers on this wild ride. You’ve all meant so much to me.

Be safe! I look forward to our paths crossing again soon!

PS – I’m working with Paul Brandt and Brad Hildebrand at USAT to find a new home for the information that has traditionally been found on this website. Stay tuned for more details!
